WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING: Light photography comes from the greek words phos and graphis which translated together means 'drawing with light' Light painting is one of few photographic techniques that do not need a camera to create. These images can only be performed at night or in a very dark area were the photographer can introduce different light elements during one single prolonged exposure. An average exposure is usually 5 minutes but they can range from a few seconds to several hours. The light elements can be introduced directly or indirectly, through; mobile phones, a torch, toys that light up, it can be anything that emits light.

ISO In digital photography ISO measures the sensitivity of the image sensor. A similar principles apply . The lower the number on the camera the less sensitive your camera is to light and the finer the grain.
THE HISTORY OF LIGHT PAINTING: Light painting dates back to 1889 when the first know light painting was created by two people Etienne Marey and Georges Demeny met. They created the piece called 'pathological walk from in front' (the image below) from this you can see comparing this to the rest of the images on this page how much light photography has developed.
EXPOSURE: This image shows the prolonged exposure, you can see the ghostly figure of a second man were he has been drawing the bat behind the man and the camera has started exposing and has created the mist of the man were he was standing there for a short period of time drawing the bat. You know it was another person because the main figure is really bold and if he was the one drawing then he would not be as bold as he is would be fainter and would probably look like he has been moving or would have not stood in the exact same place so there would be more than one of him.
