Pinhole photography. pin hole photography is a lensless photography. A tiny hole replaces the lens. light passes through the hole and an image is created. The cameras used are small or large, improvisedor improvised with great care. some of these cameras have been made of sea shells, coke cans, gravy tins and at least one has been made out of a discarded refrigerator, Photos taken with a pinhole camera could never be recreated to the same standard with a digital camera. This is because the pinhole camera does not have a lens. To take a good photograph you need to carefully build your camera to make sure your paper inside the camera doesn't move during the process of exposure.
How to make a pinhole camera
To make a pinhole camera you must first find a container that it light tight a gravy tin is good .
On your container draw a rectangle on the side at least 3/4 of an inch away from the base of the tin
With a knife or a sharp cutting instrument cut out 3 sides of the rectangle leaving one side to create a flap.
with tin foil cut out a rectangle big enough to cover the rectangle.
on the inside of your tin sellotape your tin foil over the rectangle with strong tape so no light can get in.
with the very tip of a pin pierce your tin foil in the center this will be your lens.
with a very strong tape on the out side of your tin cover the rectangle flap but make sure you will be able to remove the tape easily
make sure the tape i light tight
Spray paint the inside of the tin back so that no light can reflect if the sides.
look around the whole tin and make sure n light could possibly get in if there is some just tape over it
and now you have a pinhole camera
I chose this pinhole image, by Brad hannay, because it has a really well thought out composition. I also like this because it has a panoramic view, this gives the image a calm feel. There is a line of the dark trees that draws you into the centre of the image, this gives it a frame. This image has a sharp contrast between the sky and the trees, I'm not sure if i like the contrast but it does separate the sky from the water. The image has a slightly blurred focus on the outside but in the center of the image it is quite clear and you can see a bit of the detail on the building. This image gives of a smooth texture through out the photograph.
MY PINHOLE IMAGE This pin hole image was not captured by my pinhole camera i made. This is because my camera was not working. This image was captured by a wooden box that we had in class. I really like this because you can see the contrast between the sky and the floor even before it has been transferred from negative to positive.
